Recently, there’s a news report in one of the Chinese daily in Malaysia, Guang Ming Daily saying the following (if you read mandarin):
Translation of first paragraph:
Lim Guan Eng said that he is a Chief Minister from “Rocket” (Democratic Action Party) and as such, he will demand speed and efficiency when he does anything. If his City Councillors, EXCO, State Assemblymen and Parliamentary Representatives are slow in doing things, he will shoot (scold) them.
Sure. Let’s refer to another news report by another Chinese daily, Kwong Wah Newspaper.

Translation of Title and Date:
DAP Penang Official Website – Relaunch by Mid-Month
2008-04-02 11.35 P.M.
Basically the news says that the website have been facing unknown problems, and Teh Yee Cheu, the webmaster for the website hopes that it will be functional again by the middle of the month. The report was written in April.
May 15 has come and passed. Here’s how the website look like:
DAPPenang.org as of Monday May 12, 2008 8.53 A.M.
Unfortunately the webmaster, also the State Assemblyman for Tanjung Bungah, has embarked on a journey to Xiamen to (hopefully) raise RM500,000 for charity.
Speed and Efficiency my new Chief Minister of Penang? I beg to differ. The fact that your party can’t even maintain an official local party website online, and can’t relaunch it in more than one month speaks a lot about your party.
Penang DAP is TOOT, and by extension so is Penang Government. It disappoints me a whole lot.

Thanks to your toots. Seriously, I think the site for http://www.dapmalaysia.org will give everyone a comprehensive information about the party. Hence, I am also in agreement that http://www.dappenang.org is not up but seriously, if it disappoints you a whole lot, do you bit to contribute. Offer your assistance and step up to the challenge. I am sure the party will be happy to accept your proposal to help them. I noticed you also being in other sites like http://www.liewchintong.com I am sure you gave good marks and nation building is not about building websites. It is about action and I don’t think you are being very constructive about things. Sorry I rather toot you back. So write to Chin Tong since you probably wrote to him before. Offer your help. If you are really supportive of what democracy is all about, you should voice your support not just through words but actions, so what say you?

Wow. Your post was so close to getting deleted as Spam. Luckily I still go through my Spam comment once in a while.
You are right. I am not being very constructive about things – that’s my point. Constructive criticism isn’t a selling point of this website/ blog. In fact, most of what I have written is rant/ crap. This is after all, our blog.
I do thank you very much for commenting. My point about the post was to rant and criticise, with the hope of doing that will get someone to act on it. I have offered to help before (on other things), but I am currently near my workload capacity. I am after all, a student. I am not even in Penang 85% of a year.
You are right. Nation building is not about building websites. My point being, look at Penang Gerakan website, look at Australia Labor Party (Victoria) website, look at USA Democratic Party website – all well designed.
Younger generation relies on the web for information. If there isn’t even a state party website to disseminate information about the work of the party in the state, then a lot of information is missing for youngsters.
My contribution, in my humble point of view, lies in me criticising. Most people just do not care. The fact that I care enough to spend time writing about it, and replying about my view says something about my contribution, albeit little.
Sorry if you are offended. The blog post might be intended to slightly offend, but this reply is not. I truly appreciate any reader, even more one who cares enough to reply. Thanks for that.
